Mainstream media often accuses Israel of hindering humanitarian aid to Gaza, but recent revelations suggest a different narrative. A UN report obtained by The Washington Post highlights the role of Hamas operative Yasser Abu Shabab in orchestrating systematic attacks on aid convoys. Operating from eastern Rafah, Abu Shabab leads an organized group of armed men who disrupt aid deliveries by erecting dirt barriers and ambushing trucks with rifles.
Last Saturday alone, his group intercepted 89 out of 109 UN food aid trucks, injuring drivers and firing shots during the attacks. The looting has caused $25.5 million in aid losses as of October, with human casualties including four killed drivers since May and others severely injured.
Reports from Channel 12 News indicate that Hamas has misappropriated nearly half a billion dollars in humanitarian aid since the war began last year. This involves seizing supplies, hoarding them in secret warehouses, and reselling them to Gaza residents at inflated prices, with the proceeds allegedly funding terrorist operations.
Aid organizations warn that this exploitation risks worsening an already critical humanitarian crisis as winter approaches.
